General Discussion Area > Town centre survey
Hi there, Please log onto www.yourlocallondon.com/balham
I am the editor for Balham and Battersea. We have local discussions, up to date local news and we feature local businesses. Please have a look and use the site to discuss or find out about anything local. It is very well laid out and very easy to navigate around.
Its great to see new cafes and shops opening in Balham town centre but as one of the many young mums in the area i feel we are crying out for more child friendly cafes. and shops. Bertie and Boo is great but severly lacks space once one or two prams are on site and Starbucks also soon fills up with prams. A few childrens stores - toys and clothing would be a great addition to the area. Perhaps Balham could capitalise more on the rising rents and big chains moving into Northcote Road and pick up on the smaller independents seeking a new home - the local clientelle certainly fits the bill.
Do you not think they are enough cafes? There's Bertie and Boo's, Cafe Neros, Starbucks, Coffee Me Up and the one by the market... That's not even all of them.
What Balham needs is some clothes shops, really. There is only charity shops around and I know many people my age that would want a H&M ,New Look, River Island, Topshop or even a Primark (as people tend to commute to Tooting Broadway to there). They would really make a difference to Balham in my opinion... there are far too many estate agents as well.
Wish all you want for clothes or coffee shops - what everyone seems to want is pound shops!
Just what is happening to our town? And what is the so-called town-centre manager doing to help?
The 'regeneration' of Hildreth Street market is a joke - there are, on most days, no stalls at all. M&S is closing and will doubtless be replaced by yet another charity shop or amusement arcade.
In addition, the local authority is determined to make life hell for residents by issuing more and more late-night liquor licences, ensuring that residents are disturbed night after night by screaming, drunken oiks vomiting as they wait for night buses outside our homes.
As we contemplate the gangs of schoolkids running riot in our litter-strewn streets, we wonder what has happened to 'New Balham'.

I find this site extremely difficult to navigate as pieces of information are distributed in various places and not collated efficiently. I heard that there was an online survey for residents of Balham to give the town centre manager their input on how they would like to see the town centre develop. I'm unable to find this. Anyone able to help?and often give up on what I'm trying to find. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.
