Have your say on proposed route 255 extension
London Buses is seeking the views of local residents and bus users on proposals to extend bus route 255 from Streatham Hill to Balham Station. The route currently operates between Pollards Hill and Streatham Hill.
The extension would provide a bus service to the Hyde Farm, Weir and Molly Huggins estates and would provide residents with bus links to Balham High Street, Balham, Streatham Station, Streatham Hill Station and Pollards Hill.
A public exhibition outlining the extension and the proposed changes to road layouts and parking will be held at the Weir Centre on Saturday 6 June from 11:00 to 13:00 and on Thursday 11 June from 17:00 to 19:30. TfL and Lambeth Council officials will be available to discuss the plans and answer questions relating to the route extension.
Single deck buses would run every 10-12 minutes on Mondays to Saturdays, and every 20 minutes in the evenings and on Sundays. The service would operate between around 06:00 and 01:00.
The consultation will run from Tuesday 26 May 2009 until Friday 17 July 2009. Those who wish to respond to the consultation can do so via the TfL website http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/projectsandschemes/networkandservices/busrouteconsultations/11640.aspx or by contacting London Buses Customer Services on 0845 300 7000.

Absolutely ridiculous proposal to use Radbourne Road - it's simply not suitable for buses.
1. It's not wide enough (especially the Wier Road end)
2. A bus route will adds unnecessary pedestrian risks (particularly to children, with so many schools and nurseries in the area)
3. As well as the obvious extra noise and pollution, scores of resident parking spaces will be lost
I'm really not sure of the motives for proposing Radbourne. If TFL are looking for a link through to Weir Road, the obvious route would be to use Thornton Road.
Would residents on the Hyde Farm around Radbourne really use the bus the get into town? I doubt it. It's a 10 minute walk to the station from Radbourne - a bus would be no quicker (once traffic congestion on the High Road is accounted for).
Ok, surprise surprise, I live on Radbourne Road but hopefully other people will share my point of view. If you do, please post your comments on the TFL website!
I agree with the above author. The idea of sending buses down Radbourne Road is crazy - it's a small residential road (particularly the Weir Road end) and it's just not wide enough to safely accommodate buses. Why the route doesn't run down Thornton Road instead is beyond me. It's only a road behind Radbourne Road but is bigger, wider, less residential and would have less of a negative impact on the local residents because essential residential parking would not have to be removed. Most importantly however, it's a safer route as the bus will be able to use the roundabout instead of (already hairy!) cross roads on Radbourne Road. I know I'm not the only resident on Radbourne Road that is dearly hoping that common sense prevails and that TFL will put the safety of the local residents first!!!
I hope the planned changes do occur. The homes in Radbourne Road are full of disabled ex-servicemen and their wives or widows. Those I have spoken to feel that it would save them up to £30 per month in cab fare when shopping. That is a very large amount of money for those on a fixed income. Yes they would indeed use this service. I know I surely would.
